The Flag Will Rise Again

Painted in July 2023, this artwork depicts—
A confined room, with the flag of Bangladesh inside and boundless light outside. A country trapped in the grip of fascism, yet amidst the darkness, a message of hope:
لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا “Do not grieve; surely Allah is with us.”
At that time, I moved to Dhaka with my family to escape police harassment. The fear, confinement, and hope of those days found expression on this canvas.
Exactly one year later—
in July 2024, fascism came to an end.
The canvas portrayed a longing for light breaking through the darkness; and a year later, July seemed to turn that longing into reality.
How astonishing! What an extraordinary coincidence!
